The Royal Armouries has three museums in the United Kingdom, the White Tower at the Tower of London, Fort Nelson near Fareham and the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.  This is a purpose built museum that opened in 1996 and now holds the majority of the National Collection of Arms and Armouries, one of the oldest and largest collections in the world.

The Royal Armouries is located close to the city centre on the bank of the River Aire in a modern waterfront development with amazing views of the docks.  The drinks reception is to be held in the Tournament Gallery, which is an impressive gallery display of fearsome weapons and special armour developed for tournaments over previous centuries.

The Royal Armouries promises to be an excellent dinner venue and we hope you can join us for the official BAETS 2021 congress dinner.

General information

Leeds is situated in the centre of the United Kingdom.  Although it has an industrial heritage it is now the second-largest financial centre in the United Kingdom and third largest shopping destination outside London.  Despite this Leeds has a compact city centre and is easy to navigate around.  It has over 1000 shops and 300 bars and restaurants within the city centre.

Travel

Leeds is easily accessed by road, rail and air.  It sits at the crossroads of the M1, A1(M) and M62 motorways, connecting north, south, east and west.

The train station is positioned in the city centre and is the busiest station in the north of England.  There are frequent inter-city routes to nearly every UK city, including LNER trains to and from London and the First Transpennine Express service with links to Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool, York and Edinburgh.  Cross Country trains connect to other major cities, such as Birmingham and Bristol.

Leeds Bradford Airport is 8 miles outside the city centre and is an easy taxi ride into the city.  There is also a regular bus service run by Transdev on the FLYER buses that take around half an hour to reach the city centre.
